I was seven years old! That’s what I say when people ask me about when I started making jewelry. It’s a frequent question from those who wonder if this is a new hobby, as I’m on my way to becoming an empty nester.
Believe it or not, I was a gap toothed seven year-old when I made my first “line” of jewelry. Granted, it was made from surplus yarn my grandma gave me, but nonetheless, it all started the summer I turned seven. See press article below…
I currently don’t make things out of yarn, but contact me if you’re interested in a made to order piece, and we can talk about pricing!
I continued making jewelry for myself over the years and subsequently, friends started asking me about it. I literally started selling my personally handcrafted jewelry off my body! Making special gifts for birthdays and holidays became my passion. I soon realized that my designs were limited by my skill set and I went back to school. I studied at Revere Academy for Jewelry Arts and worked toward an MFA in Small Metal Sculpture at the Academy of Art in San Francisco.
Even then, I was not thinking about jewelry as a business; it was just something I loved to create and share. With my pre-kid professional life in fashion, I realized that I could reach a broader community of women by evolving this love into a business. Heather Kenealy Jewelry and our online store is the culmination of many years of fun, love and art.
I am devoted to finding unusual, rare and beautiful materials. Elegant and fashion conscious designs with a nod to organic shapes and textures are the hallmarks of my work. I hope you feel special when you wear my jewelry and that it reflects to the world your femininity and strength.
